Controls Engineer Intern
Coreshell's metallurgical Silicon anode technology delivers high capacity, fast-charging, and superior safety. Our low-cost liquid-phase nano-coating addresses critical electrode-surface degradation issues and enables batteries with a Silicon-dominant anode that have higher energy density, superior intrinsic thermal safety, and significantly lower cost/kWh compared to current LIBs. Our Si anode material is lower than the cost of graphite and 100% domestically sourced. We strive to transform the global automotive market by enabling low-cost and long-range EVs as a first step towards net-zero sustainability in the near future.
Position Summary
The Controls Intern will work with the engineering team to design and implement process controls systems for a pilot-scale chemical synthesis process. This project will focus on providing automated controls of process parameters such as temperature, pressure and flow for various unit operations. It will require working closely with engineers and technicians to understand the current pilot-scale process, collect data and build a control system. This is a hands-on project based in a laboratory environment and will require both working with process sensing hardware as well as controls software.
Core Responsibilities
- Select, install, calibrate and inspect instrumentation, sensors and cameras to collect process data such as pressure, temperature, and flow from equipment such as batch reactors, piping, heaters, chillers, pumps, etc.
- Assist in the designing of the control systems to use process data from sensors and cameras to control process variables.
- Develop, prototype, and wire the electronic control systems.
- Program and calibrate PID controllers based on sensor feedback.
- Support troubleshooting of temperature, pressure, flow, and mixing control systems.
- Create and update control system documentation.
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and operating standards.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Currently pursuing an Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related major
- Programming experience required, ML/AI experience preferred
- Simulink experience preferred
- Experience with Arduino, PLC/DCS/SCADA/HMI systems preferred
- Ability to work independently in a team environment
- Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail
Location & Benefits
- Location: On-site, San Leandro, CA
- Compensation: $25-30/hour, depending on experience
- Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
